Instant Vest!

So I'm ridiculously obsessed with Lindsay Lohan - always have, always will be - I just love everything about her, especially her style. So when I saw her in this amazing Current Elliott Vest I put it in my little "Things I Want" file for future purchasing. It's such a great vest - it's super flattering, as it cuts right at the waist, and while the wash, which Current Elliott terms, "Loved" (how fun is that!) is a little on the lighter side, I think it presents a great mixture of rocker-cowboy-hipster; a perfect addition/accessory to jazz up any outfit.
However, when I went back home for vacation, ready to hint to my mother how much I really wanted this vest, I came across an old jean jacket, and before I knew it I had my own version of the vest. I had my sister (who is much more crafty than I) cut off the arms and loop through some elastic through the bottom, and Wa-La! The Current Elliott vest was done! While I know it's not the real deal, I'm still pleased with my economical thinking and crafty idea, and I got a great vest out of it. Especially considering I probably wore that jean jacket maybe twice, now at least I'll be getting some use out of it, even if that did require some minor adjustments.

Fun and Flirty Flats

Just snooping around looking for some flats to wear for this weekend, and of course for later use, but mainly for just walking around in, just something that is not my Uggs or my black boots. I never have luck with flats, either I can't find ones I like or the pattern is too busy/intricate for me but I have become more open and willing to try more fun and flirty flats. So in my search I have to say anthropologie.com has a great selection of really reasonable fun flats. Plus they have categorized their flats into "printed" and "solid" which makes it easy on finding exactly what you are looking for. Don't be fooled, even their solid flats are far from any plain jane flats.

Below are some of my fabulous flat finds:
(1) Sidewinder Ballerinas ($78)
The color (which they claim to be silver) is totally neutral, but the snake-embossed patter definitely kicks this ballerina flat up a notch. Everyone needs a great pair of metallic flats, and I love, love, love the orange on the inside, such a great detail!

(2) Perfect Couple Skimmers (Orig. $298, Now $199)
Black flats are a definite must-have, and spending a little more on this wardrobe necessity is okay by me considering this staple will go a long way for your future. Trust me, these Cynthia Vincent black flats are perfect! The ruffle detail on the toe gives this shoe such a feminine look without going over board, and the shinny-er black leather gives the shoe an even more sophisticated look. Plus they are by Cynthia Vincent...um, hello, LOVE HER!

(3) Tory Burch Harrison in Tangerine Orange Leather (Orig. $250, Now $162)
Loafers are definitely another closet must-have, and these TB's aren't your ordinary loafer. While of course they come in all other colors of the rainbow I found these great orange ones on sale and ready to rock. They are a little springy, but the orange makes for such a great classic color, even I (boring mc-boring) thinks they are do able. I'm a Tory Burch advocate and I have to say I really impressed with these loafers. Also, I heard they are super comfortable, which of course is a priority.

Kicks: For the Airplane

So I'm currently en route home from my mini-vacation in the darling palm-tree ridden state known as florida and was just thinking about flight attire. Generally speaking I would prefer to be in a great pair of spandex leggings or soLows and rarely wear jeans - let alone on plane rides - but considering the woman sitting by me is decked out in heels and a low cut "going out" dress I found myself thinking. Comfy is usually the way to go for flying but if your concerned about looking too "shlepy" no worries, my mother always feels this way before she flies: its the wardrobe dilemma for flying. So while I can advise for or against sweatsuits that's for you to decide, however one pointer I will give you is the comfy yet casual plane footwear.
Whether you are coming from to winter weather or off to the sunny beaches on the carribean a solid and multi-seasonal shoe would be a sneaker. Doesn't really matter what brand (although my personal choices may be found below) but a sneaker is great for many reasons. One being they are easy to remove (if you don't tie the laces too tightly) and you will be wearing socks underneath so you eliminate the chance of walking bare foot through security. Furthermore, you can get extra comfy on the plane in just your socks - although bewarw of some awkward stare downs some people don't appreciate the taking your shoes off clause. Second, its always important to have sneaks with you on your trip. Just because we are on vacatuion doesn't mean we need to immediately turn couch potato your body doesn't go on vacation so neither should you - so having your kicks will give you extra incentive to get up and take at least one jog or go for a walk. Third, sneakers are a very neutral branch of footwear. If they don't resemble your children's soccer footwear you can pretty much get away with wearing them out during the day anytime and anywhere. Plus they are always automatically comfortable, because after all they are your sneakers and we all know you bought those puppies for comfort and kicking butt not leg lengthening and slimming down effects.
So it's a win-win: sneakers are by far a solid plane wearing must-have. And you don't even have to pack them so they won't add any extra weight to your embarrasingly heavy bag - pardon me, there I'm talking about myself. So enjoy your kicks and your vacation!
Some of my suggestions:
(1) New Balance 991/992 (~$99)
Link: any sneaker / shoe website. Some include, www.zappos.com, amazon.com, or footlocker.com

Now for these next pair, you don't want to look like you are about to head off to the gym the second you exit the plane. With these Nikes, they have a good balance between sneaker and casual wearability; meaning they don't scream "sneaker" and you can get away with wearing them freely.
(2) Any nike shox - I personally like these: Nike Shox Vivify (~$100)
Link: www.finishline.com or any other shoe/sneaker website as mentioned above.

I also like these Nike Shox - they are adorable (I actually just ordered them myself) and the pop of color is a great workout motivator/booster!
Nike Shox Navina in Black/Silver/Purple (~$105)
